Taoist Sacred Sites Tour

Day 1 / USA - China
Depart Los Angeles (LAX) and cross the Int'l Date Line.
Day 2 / Beijing
Arrive in Beijing in the early evening and stay at the Fragrant Hills Hotel located in a beautiful 4,000 acre park once the summer retreat of China's emperors. Relaxing dinner, and a trip to receive a traditional Tui-Na Therapeutic Massage Session. Sleep!
Day 3 / Beijing (all meals)
Early morning Qigong in beautiful Fragrant Hills Park. We will be training in Medical and Taoist Qigong methods with Master Teng Yingbo. We will then leisurely tour the park's interesting sites including the Temple of The Azure Clouds and The Diamond Throne Pagoda. Next, we take a 20 minute chair lift to the summit with its panoramic views of the forested hills and the beautiful Summer Palace (Summer resort for the Emperors). We then will go by bus to tour the beautiful Summer Palace, and take a scenic boat ride on the large Lake on the Palace grounds. That evening we close out the day with a wonderful dinner and attend a performance at the world famous Peking Opera. Therapeutic Tui-Na Massage sessions available.

Day 4 / Beijing (all meals)
Early morning Qigong and free time in Fragrant Hills Park. We will be training in Medical and Taoist Qigong methods. Then it is off to the White Cloud Taoist Temple, headquarters of the Dragon Gate Sect of Taoism. We will explore the Temple complex and view demonstrations by the local monks and masters. Dinner, and a trip to a Traditional Chinese Foot Massage Clinic for a wonderful hour long hot herbal foot soak and massage.
Day 5 / Beijing (all meals)
Morning Qigong study in Fragrant Hills Park. We will then depart for the majestic Sacred Road with it's large stone sculptures, the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall. We will explore an older section of the wall and have free time to climb and enjoy the wonderful views.
Day 6 / Beijing - Xian (all meals)
Morning Qigong exercise in the Fragrant Hills Park. We will then take a plane to the ancient city of Xian. Visits to a local museum, or free time. We will be staying in a hotel right next to the Ancient City Wall. At night we will have a wonderful dumpling feast and view the beautiful Tang Dynasty Cultural Show!
Day 7 / Xian - Longuantai (all meals)
Morning free time and breakfast. Then off to tour The Temple of the Eight Immortals, considered to be one of the most revered sites in Taoism. Afterwards, we visit the flea market in front of the temple where farmers sell Han Dynasty antiques unearthed from their fields. In the afternoon we will take a bus ride across the Shanxi plains to Louguantai. We will stay in the guest hall at the Taoist Temple built on the site where Lao Tzu wrote the Tao Te Ching. Some have compared Louguantai to the mystical land of Shangri La! Truly a beautiful place.
Day 8 / Longuantai (all meals)
Morning in the Temple courtyard where we will practice Qigong together. We will have lessons and lectures with Master Ren Farong on the inner meaning of the Tao Te Ching and the practice of Internal Alchemy. The afternoon is open to tour the temple and surrounding areas guided by the local monks. In the evening there will be an opportunity to gather and discuss the lessons of the day, followed by time for meditation in the temple courtyard lit by the soft glow of red silk lanterns.

Day 9 / Longuantai (all meals)
Continuing our stay at Longuantai Temple we will practice Qigong together in the morning. We will continue our lessons and lectures with Master Ren Farong on the inner meaning of the Tao Te Ching and the practice of Internal Alchemy. The afternoon is open to tour the temple and surrounding areas guided by the local monks. In the evening there will be an opportunity to gather and discuss the lessons of the day, followed by time for meditation in the temple courtyard lit by the soft glow of red silk lanterns.
Day 10 / Longuantai - Huashan (all meals)
In the early morning, we take a scenic bus ride to visit the incredible site where16,000 Terra Cotta warriors from the Ching Dynasty were unearthed. In the afternoon we arrive at the base of Hua Shan (Flower Mountain), a famous and sacred Taoist Mountain, where we will meet Taoist monks and nuns and take a short introductory tour of Jade Spring Monastery. Dinner at Jade Spring Monastery and an opportunity to discuss the lessons of the day.
Day 11 / Huashan Mountain (all meals)
In the late morning, we will take the cable car half way up Mt.Hua Shan, one of China's sacred Taoist mountains. At 7,000 feet, its majestic peaks rise above the clouds. We will meet the Taoist priests who live there as we visit many temples and shrines and explore the caves used by hermits. We will stay the night near the summit of Mt. Hua Shan in a Taoist monastery/hotel. Overnight on the mountain, lessons in Taoist philosophy and meditation.
Day 12 / Huashan Mountain (all meals)
Rise before sunrise and climb to the top of East Peak for meditation and viewing the sun rise above the clouds. We then visit and study with Taoist scholars in the oldest monastery on the mountain. In the evening we will climb to the top of West Peak to view the spectacular sunset. Overnight on the mountain, lessons in Taoist philosophy and meditation.
Day 13 / Huashan Mountain (all meals)
More study with the Taoist scholars is followed by free time to explore the mountain. We then take the cable car down and shop at the bazaar at the bottom of the mountain. Dinner will be a 12 course banquet at Jade Spring Monastery in honor of the local Taoist Masters.
Day 14 / Xian - Shanghai (all meals)
Morning travel and flight to Shanghai. Arrive Shanghai and transfer to Peace Hotel, one of the most famous hotels in China! The colonial Peace Hotel is a 12 story throwback to the pre-revolutionary days of old Shanghai. The hotel has a sumptuous lobby, shops and famous jazz bar for the music lovers in our group. A beautiful evening boat ride on the Huang Pu River , and a banquet dinner.
Day 15 / Shanghai (all meals)
Today we will visit the famous Jade Buddha Temple. This temple houses an enormous solid jade carving of Shakyamuni Buddha. Lunch then a visit to the beautiful Yu Yuan Gardens, a spectacular traditional Chinese garden complex. Dinner, and a chance to see the world famous Shanghai Acrobat performance!
Day 16 / Shanghai-USA (breakfast)
We return to Los Angeles and arrive home the same day.
